Welcome to the Newest Members of the Cum Laude Society

St. Albans inducted 15 members of the Class of 2023 into the Cum Laude Society on May 18, 2023. The society recognizes not only superior scholarly achievement, but also the character qualities of areté (excellence), diké (justice), and timé (honor).

Hamish Hume ’86 offered the address at the service. Recalling lessons learned from Athletic Director Skip Grant, Hume encouraged the students to be resilient. “To live with character is a lifelong challenge,” noted Hume. “There may be no greater life skill than learning to deal with failure.” And invoking Canon Charles Martin, Charlie Martin ’86 (the headmaster’s grandson and Hume’s classmate), and today’s BEEF Club, Hume encouraged the students to have spirit.

Please join us in congratulating the inductees:

Located in Washington D.C.,  St. Albans School is a private, all boys day and boarding school. For more than a century, St. Albans has offered a distinctive educational experience for young men in grades 4 through 12. While our students reach exceptional academic goals and exhibit first-rate athletic and artistic achievements, as an Episcopal school we place equal emphasis upon moral and spiritual education.
