Reinforce and expand St. Albans’ commitments to the arts, engineering, and computer science and promote student engagement in the creative process across disciplines.
Our core curriculum of arts, sciences, and humanities, along with our extracurricular offerings, develops in our students an aesthetic appreciation for and understanding of the world. It teaches boys to express themselves clearly, independently, and confidently, and inspires the empathy and compassion that will compel them to act in service to others.
— Kerry O’Brien, Biology Teacher and Former Robotics Club Advisor
“Robotics mimics the real world very well, in that you cannot just win on your own. You have to be able to interact and work with other people, some of whom you have just met. If something doesn’t work, you have to be creative and keep trying to find a solution, which provides valuable life lessons.”
To modernize and reinvigorate that core liberal arts curriculum, we will weave classes and experiences related to the arts and sciences into the fabric of our core curriculum so that every student leaves St. Albans with a greater appreciation of beauty, a deeper experience with the creative process, and an increased understanding of computer science, data science, and engineering, and their application to modern problem-solving.
We will nurture the creativity of St. Albans boys in the arts and sciences so they can envision what has not been done before and make it a reality, and we will nurture the capabilities students need to work effectively with one another — to listen carefully, converse openly, and design creatively.
Create a student workspace that demonstrates our commitment to a forward-thinking, dynamic curriculum and allows students to incorporate technology, innovation, computer science, data science, engineering, and design into their learning in a variety of different ways and through a variety of different departmental curricula.
Invest in a gallery that fosters community around the arts, creates a space for dialogue, and deepens our awareness of the role of beauty in our lives at St. Albans.
Strengthen the ties between our core academic classes and the creativity, iterative experimentation, and innovative thinking that are innate to the arts and sciences, and help our students reframe problems to find new solutions.
Located in Washington D.C., St. Albans School is a private, all boys day and boarding school. For more than a century, St. Albans has offered a distinctive educational experience for young men in grades 4 through 12. While our students reach exceptional academic goals and exhibit first-rate athletic and artistic achievements, as an Episcopal school we place equal emphasis upon moral and spiritual education.
