Window Design Selected for the Class of 2026

The annual stained-glass window design voted upon to represent the Class of 2026 this year was designed by Form VI graduate Humphrey Wolfe '26. One of the longest standing traditions at St. Albans, designs for a window to represent the year's graduating class are selected from student submissions. After narrowing down the numerous submissions, the senior class casts their votes to determine which design will hang in Lane-Johnston for future Bulldogs to see. Wolfe's design, that takes inspiration from famous works of art and previous STA class window designs, was recognized at the senior breakfast before the Class of 2026's Commencement. Read Wolfe's speech below:

"I am honored to have my design selected and to be able to talk about it with you all today. Over my years at St. Albans, I have admired the senior class windows all around us, and I have been particularly drawn to one that was based on a famous work of art, this being The Class of 2012’s window that is a play on Leonardo da Vinci's Vitruvian Man. I chose to follow this path, and based my submission on Caspar David Friedrich’s painting, The Wanderer above the Sea of Fog.

In our Form IV English II class, many of us learned about this painting while learning about the emotion of the sublime. “The sublime,” as I have learned, describes something that inspires so much awe that it leads to an out-of-body experience and opportunity for reflection. I chose to depict this particular feeling in the senior window because I feel precisely this way looking back on my time at St. Albans. I can’t describe the love and awe I have for this place, and the people here, in words.

As we accomplish reaching the top of this mountain of St. Albans and enter the unknown of what lies ahead, I am drawn to the man on the mountain looking into the fog. I'm grateful to be selected and I am thrilled to see the window when it gets converted to glass."

Congratulations, Humphrey, on your design's selection, and your graduation!
