STA Celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day
St. Albans School will celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with an emphasis on social justice.The Lower School begins the day by watching a video of Dr. King speaking at Barratt Junior High School in 1967. Upper School students will report to their first period classes.At 8:45 am, all St. Albans students and faculty will join NCS for a special Cathedral chapel service. Canon Leonard Hamlin, Canon Missioner of the Washington National Cathedral, will offer the homily, and coordinate musical groups from both STA and NCS will render songs. Parents are invited to attend the service. (Please park in the Cathedral garage.)Following the Cathedral service, Upper School students will participate in social justice teach-in workshops from 11:50 am to 12:45 pm. The Lower School will depart to engage in the following volunteer projects:Form II: Capital Area Food Bank Form I: A Wider Circle Form A: Stoddard Baptist Nursing Home (Grant Brown’s Homeroom)Spanish English Development Center (Anne Continetti’s Homeroom) Easter Seals Child Development Center (Jack Levner’s Homeroom) Form B: Hike from Battery Kemble Park to C&O Canal, trail cleanup Form C: Remain on campus to build gift boxes and make cards for hospitalized children, and to hear from Tracy Councill of Tracy’s Kids Note: Lower School students will travel by bus to the off-campus locations. About the Play: “Space Princess Wars” is a hilarious mashup of “The Princess Bride” and the original “Star Wars” trilogy, “Space Princess Wars” is an action-adventure comedy. When his daughter stays home “sick” from school one day, the dad seizes the opportunity to read his ginormous, epic screenplay, which includes a kidnapped Space Princess, a simple farm boy seeking to rescue his true love, laser swordfights, gigantic cat monsters, and killer robots. An homage to/parody of these iconic movies, “Space Princes Wars” is a fast-paced, zany comedy with spaceships, singing cats, vicious teddy bears, and cyborgs. -

The NCS-STA Madrigal Singers and members of the Upper School Orchestra will perform in the D.C. High School Choir Festival sponsored by the Cathedral Choral Society. The concert begins at 7:30 pm, in the Cathedral and is free and open to the public. Come hear some fine music and support our Madrigal Singers and Orchestra.
