We are honored to help cohost a conference focusing on issues of diversity, equity, inclusion, community, mentorship, and teaching. For most—if not all—boys of color, walking through the doors of a selective boys' school should be a life-changing experience. But the journey through our schools is often fraught with feelings of inadequacy and stress caused by subtle and not-so-subtle acts of intolerance, misunderstanding, and even racism.

We are partnering with Baltimore Collegiate School for Boys, Gilman School, and the International Boys’ School Coalition (an organization of schools worldwide dedicated to the development and education of boys) for this special conference, and we invite heads of school, administrators, and K-12 teachers for a candid conversation about our challenges and opportunities working with boys of color and ensuring their success academically, socially, and emotionally. Professors Randall Kennedy and Joseph Nelson guide the conference with their academic work, deep thinking, and lived practice on how to help boys of color achieve success.

Together, let's explore ways to mitigate anxieties and build stronger connections with boys of color, making our school communities healthier and more vibrant.

Parking: Paid parking is available in the Washington National Cathedral garage, located on Wisconsin Ave at the traffic signal directly in front of Washington National Cathedral (3101 Wisconsin Ave NW). (Thursday evening, free parking is also available on the grounds of the Cathedral and St. Albans School.)

Walking from the Parking Garage: Walk parallel to the front (west) entrance of the cathedral. Cross South Road and follow Church House Lane (a playground will be on your right) down to the intersection with Pilgrim Road. Cross and follow the sidewalk to your right to the stairs outside Marriott Hall.

Walking from the Hotel: The Kimpton Glover Park hotel is one-half mile from St. Albans. Walk north (uphill) on Wisconsin Ave NW. Cross Massachusetts Ave NW and turn back right onto the Massachusetts Ave sidewalk. Take an immediate left onto Pilgrim Road. Walk past the Lower School (with its blue doors) and turn right through the chapel arch to the circle in front of the school. Cross the circle to the stairs outside the modern glass and stone Marriott Hall entrance.
