Especially for Parents

Your MySTA page, events, and other resources.

Log in to the MySTA group page, College Advisory for Class of 2024 Parents, for links, handouts, and a list of colleges that will be visiting St. Albans this fall.

If you have not yet completed your parent questionnaire, it is not too late! Please return it to the College Office as soon as possible. You may email it to us or complete the form in MySTA. These statements from you are invaluable to us as we write your son’s school letter of recommendation.

On Thursday, September 14, the college advisors will give an update on the college process for Form VI parents and discuss what to expect this fall. The meeting will be held online only, from 6:00-7:00 pm: zoom link (Meeting ID: 867 7533 8658, Passcode: 233515, Join by Phone: +1 301 715 8592).

The emotions of the senior year—for you and your son—are real. Think about them and talk about them with Dr. Carrie Friend and us at these two events:

Wednesday, October 11, at 8:00 am - Form VI Parent Education Session: The Emotions of the Senior Year, Trophy Room and on zoom (Meeting ID: 870 0664 1403, Passcode: 855994, Phone: +1 301 715 8592)

May (date TBD) - Form VI Parent Education Session: The Transition to College

Two books that we recommend to you for this stage of the college process:

Letting Go: A Parents’ Guide to Understanding the College Years, by Karen Levin Coburn and Madge Lawrence Treeger. This is an excellent book for parents about what it feels like to live with college-age children. Parents, don’t wait until spring to begin reading this.

Making the Most of College: Students Speak Their Minds, by Richard Light. Professor Light, a member of the Harvard faculty, has spent much of the past 10 years researching how students feel that faculty can improve the students’ college experience. This is, according to Professor Light, “a compendium of anecdotes and examples” that “emphasizes the richness of personal” experience and what students find most valuable.

Located in Washington D.C., St. Albans School is a private, all boys day and boarding school. For more than a century, St. Albans has offered a distinctive educational experience for young men in grades 4 through 12. While our students reach exceptional academic goals and exhibit first-rate athletic and artistic achievements, as an Episcopal school we place equal emphasis upon moral and spiritual education.
