St. Albans School of Washington, D.C., is seeking a Form I (seventh grade) math instructor to begin in Fall 2022.  The position involves teaching four sections of seventh-grade pre-Algebra, courses designed to explore the properties of numbers and the use of algebraic expressions and equations, among other topics.  Strong candidates will exhibit an ability to teach with imagination and vigor; an appreciation of the creative nature of math; an inclination to favor the learning process over performance; the capacity to develop in students strong critical thinking and analytical abilities; strong organizational and classroom management skills; an appreciation of adolescent boys; an interest in collaborating with other Lower School and math department faculty; and a willingness to be an active member of the school community.  Other duties may include advising, coaching, or supervising other afternoon activities.  A bachelor’s degree in mathematics or related fields and classroom experience is required; an advanced degree in math is preferred.

  • strong organizational abilities and professionalism;
  • and a strong interest in collaborating with Math Department faculty. 
  • Other duties may include coaching or supervising other afternoon activities. 
The teacher-coach model has long been a trademark of the St. Albans School experience and strong preference will be given to applicants that bring expertise to our athletics program or other extensive extracurricular offerings.
Professional Experience/Qualifications
Experience: Classroom experience required.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in a mathematics-related field required, an advanced degree in mathematics preferred.
