Teaching Fellow

St. Albans School of Washington, D.C., is seeking talented recent college graduates who are interested in independent school teaching to join our Teaching Fellows program. The purpose of the program, which is a two-year commitment, is to nurture and mentor young educators into contributing members of the independent school community. Each Fellow will be paired with a faculty mentor and will eventually be responsible for teaching one or more courses. In addition to meeting regularly with their mentors, Teaching Fellows will observe classes, meet with the Deans of Faculty and department chairs, and participate in other professional development activities. Fellows are full members of the St. Albans faculty and are expected to coach or take part in other extracurricular activities.
As part of its Teaching Fellow program, St. Albans is a partner in the Penn Fellows Independent School Teaching Residency (ISTR) program, a unique and innovative collaboration between the Graduate School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania and a consortium of the nation’s leading independent day schools. While completing the teaching fellowship at St. Albans, over the course of two years Teaching Fellows will also earn a Master of Science in Education (M.S. Ed.) at the University of Pennsylvania through the completion of ten course units, including intensive on-site sessions, innovative and collaborative distance learning, and the completion of an inquiry project. Grounded in theory and practice, the ISTR integrates the expertise of professional educators from leading institutions—scholars and practitioners alike—with a unique cohort of teaching fellows from other independent schools participating in the program.
