Celebrating PA Visual Arts Fellows

It was a night of animation, architecture, photography, and so much more as the recipients of the 2022-23 Parents’ Association Visual Arts Fellowships presented their artwork during a reception on Wednesday.

The ground floor of Marriott Hall was transformed into an art gallery, with dozens of students, parents, friends, and faculty and staff gathered to celebrate the captivating creations and hear directly from the artists themselves.

Headmaster Robinson opened the evening with remarks, where he thanked the Parents’ Association for funding this “beautiful and beloved St. Albans tradition” and congratulated the group of artists. 

David Sturtevant ’92 spoke next, sharing that he is “constantly impressed with the quality of the work that the [students] make and the range of the work that is created.” He noted that while the grants allow for some students to dive deeper into projects they covered in school, the vast majority are given the opportunity to explore something that isn’t available to them on campus.

Projects this year ranged from drone videography to wildlife photography, architectural design and urban planning, film photography and development, collages, colored pencil artwork, and more. 

At the reception, students had the opportunity to speak about their work. Lincoln Lim ’26, whose project consisted of capturing beautiful drone footage of naturescapes, shared: “I never thought I’d have the opportunity to fly an FPV drone, which has long been a dream of mine. I thought I’d do it once I retired.”

Henry Evans ’25 shared that he learned how to use a darkroom to develop his film photography. Evans joined his fellow artists in thanking the PA for their support, saying: “I grew so much over this [experience].” He added that the grant program was the perfect way to follow his desire to follow in the footsteps of his grandfather, who developed his own photos, while incorporating material he had just learned in Mr. Errett’s chemistry class.

The packed crowd was eager to ask questions and the ceremony was followed by time to explore the gallery with the artists. Many of the students had peers at the event, who were quick to congratulate them on their incredible work.

The recipients of the PA Visual Arts Fellowship were Christopher Calvo ’24, Alex Dragoi ’26, Cleo Errett ’24, Henry Evans ’25, Sam Evans ’26, Lincoln Lim ’26, Will Martin ’26, Charlie New ’24, and Ethan Ramchand ’25.
