Alumni Day 2022 was held in the Trapier Theater for the graduating seniors of the Class of 2022 (a move from the Manger Trophy room of yore). After a continental breakfast served on Decker Terrace, the boys filed into the auditorium to hear a welcome and introduction from the current President of the STA Alumni Association Dr. Carter Mitchell ’93 (and ’27 parent). He and Lanier Frank ’79 (’09 parent) discussed the importance of the Alumni Association; the need for continued alumni support and involvement; the current volunteer opportunities available to rising alumni (specifically, the need for both a Class Secretary and Class Agent and guidelines for voting on McCune Prize, a cash award given to the faculty/staff member selected by the entire senior class).
The first of three alumni-led panels, Service to St. Albans as an Alumni Volunteer, followed, whereupon the boys heard from Alumni Board members Ed Crocker ’09 (2000s Decade Chair), Jason Cross ’95 (Vice President), Bobby Cunningham ’11 (2010s Decade Chair), Jonathan Hauck ’95 (1990s Decade Chair), and President Carter Mitchell ’93 the reasons they like to stay involved with the school.
The second alumni session, Making the Most of Those College Years, followed, with recent graduates C.J. Bartolozzi ’21, Will Harmon ’20, Simon Palmore ’19, Sam Namian ’19, and Ben St. Germain ’20 talking about their varied college experiences and imparting wisdom to the boys assembled on what to expect next year.
The third and final alumni session, Work, Careers, and the Importance of Networking, hammered home the importance of staying connected and leveraging alumni relations to one’s advantage. Nick Folger ’10, Matt Grieb ’08, Justin Ochs ’91, Will Rawson ’01, and Gene Wang ’87 spoke on investment, the practice of law, and journalism in a panel led by performer and radio host Danny Rouhier ’97, who kept the audience and panel on their toes with his mirth.
A rooftop luncheon with Rockland’s BBQ on Frist Terrace capped a triumphal return to an in-person Alumni Day after a two-year hiatus!
