Soda & Mentos Lab

Enjoy the video and photos!

Form C scientists recently learned how to design a proper experiment testing one variable at a time in a fun-filled lab measuring the reaction different types of soda had when Mentos candies were added. To test the reaction, two liter bottles of soda were placed at a 45-degree angle, and the distance of spray was measured after five Mentos candies were dropped inside.

The students conducted three trials for each type of soda and averaged their results. Diet Coke was the overall winner, but students noticed a trend that other diet sodas sprayed farther than their regular soda counterparts. C Formers will be exploring this reaction further, but with different variables. Using just Diet Coke, they will measure the distance of spray when different numbers of Mentos candies are added.
