Junior runner Pierre Attiogbe is getting stronger and faster as the defining meets of the 2021 cross-country season appear on the horizon.  Saturday, in a preview of the course that will host next weekend’s IAC Championship meet, Attiogbe blazed through the Skip Grant Invitational.  The meet, named for legendary St. Albans coach and athletic director Skip Grant, was hosted at Montgomery County’s Agricultural History Farm Park which features a working farm with live animals, rolling hills, an apple orchard and large patches of forests.  Attiogbe’s time of 15:54 was 40 seconds faster than the meet’s second place runner and led the Bulldogs to their second team championship of the season.  William Strong (4th, 16:53), Sebi Hume (5th, 16:55), Aidan Urbina (14th, 17:31) and Jack Thomas (21st, 17:42) also scored for St. Albans as the hosts won the meet with 39 points.  Gilman (60 points), Georgetown Day School (82), and DeMatha (84) rounded out the top four in the 17-team field.

Venya Kuzichev (28th, 18:13) and Laszlo Wolfe (34th, 18:32) also turned in strong performances in the varsity race, which saw 91 individual runners cross the finish line.  John Rhee won the JV race in 18:21 and St. Albans topped 11 other schools to take the JV team title.  Will Spector (7th, 18:47), Peter Donets (8th, 18:48), and DJ Heiber (10th, 18:51) also finished in the top ten.

Next up for St. Albans is the IAC Championship meet next Saturday on this same course.  The season concludes the next Saturday after that, November 6th, with the DC State Athletic Association Championship at Kenilworth Park.
