Soccer Ties Prep 1-1 in Double OT

Staff
The Bulldogs traveled to Bethesda Tuesday to take on IAC foe Georgetown Prep.  The Bulldogs started the game in style as Russ Khosravi outleaped the Prep defense on a corner kick in the first minute and scored with a well-placed header.  The early goal held up throughout the first half as both teams launched runs that tested their respective defenses and goalies.

The Bulldogs did not sit on their 1-0 lead in the second half, barely missing quality services off several corner kicks and free kicks.  And the Hoyas responded, using their frontline speed to create chances off rushes and well-placed crosses.  The skies darkened and rain threatened as the second half wore on and STA hung on to its lead.  The Bulldog backline thwarted Prep's runs and when the Hoyas did break through, Goalkeeper Scott Speaker stopped a free kick from just above the penalty box, snatched a dangerous corner kick out of the air, and denied finishing shots off two crosses.  With just over 5 minutes left in regulation time, Prep was able to sneak the tying goal just inside the left post off a deflection on a contested ball.

Both teams had excellent chances in the two 5-minute overtime periods but could not find the net.  With the tie, St. Albans stays unbeaten in IAC play at 1-0-2 and Prep is 0-1-2.  Next up for the Bulldogs is a trip to Alexandria Friday to take on Episcopal at 4:15pm.
