STA Excels at Local and National Competitions

  • The MathDogs met with success yesterday at the DC-Maryland State MathLeague competition, where they took home the team award. Congratulations to all who placed in the individual competitions:
    4th Grade Individual
    1st—William Wu ’27

    5th Grade Individual
    1st—Tanush Chava ’26
    2nd—Tarun Chava ’26
    3rd—Arjun Patel ’26

    6th Grade Individual
    1st—Andrew Liu ’25
    2nd—Sebastian Hume ’25
    3rd—Evan Virtue ’25

    Ten MathDogs, including those listed above plus Ashton Ejtemai ’27, Will Irwin ’27, and David Lin ’27, were top-scorers in the competition and have been invited to the national competition in Houston in June.

  • The STA robotics team had its best showing yet in three consecutive years of qualifying for and competing at the Vex Worlds Competition in Louisville, Ky. This event included more than 800 teams from over 40 countries! STA doubled their win record (6 wins in 2019 as compared to 3 wins in 2018) and came very close to qualifying for the finals. Additionally, Liam Chalk ’19 and Ian Chang ’19 were invited to demonstrate their robot at the U.S. Congressional Robotics Caucus on Monday, April 29. Of special note, the boys were asked to show off their robot skills to Congressman Bill Foster!

  • The Upper School Chess Team won the DCSAA Chess Championship for the third year in a row on Saturday, April 27. Checkmate!
