Art Teacher (Lower School)

St. Albans School of Washington, DC, is seeking a Lower School art teacher to begin in Fall 2019. The position involves teaching fourth-, fifth-, and sixth-grade art, a curriculum that introduces artistic methods to young students and encourages confidence in self-expression through art-making by developing skills in drawing, graphics, and design, introducing visual narrative in art, facilitating the observation of the natural environment, and creating an awareness of global art historical traditions. Strong candidates will exhibit an energy and enthusiasm for inspiring young learners; an aptitude for developing knowledge and skills in a wide range of artistic media, including drawing, painting, design, and three-dimensional art; a willingness to work across disciplines; an interest in collaborating with art faculty in the development of a dynamic curriculum; and a desire to be an active member of the Lower School community. A bachelor’s degree and classroom experience are required, an advanced degree in art preferred.
