Honoring Mrs. Murphy at Her Retirement

Celebrating Joyce Murphy
 
St. Albans honored Lower School assistant Mrs. Joyce Murphy and her 25 years of service with a retirement celebration last week. It was wonderful to see so many current and past faculty and staff, family, and friends together on Senior Circle. Headmaster Jason Robinson welcomed everyone, and former Lower School Head Paul Herman and his successor, Fred Chandler, offered tributes to Mrs. Murphy, as did Mrs. Murphy’s daughter Keelin. Several colleagues extolled the virtues of retirement in a lively song and dance number.

“I will begin with these simple and profound truths,” said Mr. Chandler in his remarks. “Joyce loves the boys. She loves the teachers and staff. She knows so many families. She takes care of us.”
 
Added Mr. Herman: “Our boys know that if they have a problem, Mrs. Murphy is the solution. Thank you, Joyce, for all of the solutions and for all of the joy you have brought to this school, these past twenty-five years. Maya Angelou said, ‘People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.’ Joyce, what grace you’ve exhibited and what support you gave all of us with professionalism, kindness, respect, humor, and faith in God. You brought your best to us each and every day. You are a gem. You made all of us feel valued and respected.”
