A Visit to the Chinese Embassy

An Out of this World Visit at the Chinese Embassy

NCS and STA students taking Chinese language classes with Rae Weeks and Ted Xu were invited along with their parents to the Chinese Embassy for the launch of a Q&A video featuring three taikonauts (Chinese astronauts) answering questions from American students from other schools. The taikonauts spoke from the Tiangogn space station, where they are living and working for six months, China’s longest space mission to date. Students and their parents met Ambassador Qin Gang and former NASA astronaut Dr. Donald Thomas; and heard virtually from Barbara Morgan, the first teacher in space, and Space X and Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Students were treated to dim sum at the end of the event, and each received commemorative souvenirs, an official 2022 Winter Olympics mug and an embroidered sachet.
