AP Environmental Science students recently conducted a bubble survivorship lab, demonstrating the effects of “parental care” on the “lifespan” of a bubble. Students were asked to blow bubbles and compare their lifespans both with and without parental care, which consisted of efforts to prevent the popping of their bubble “offspring.”

APES students also conducted a cemetery demographics lab. The class visited Oak Hill Cemetery in Georgetown to collect birth and death data. They then constructed survivorship curves for populations who lived pre- vs. post-World War I, analyzing the effects on lifespan caused by advances in medical care, food security, and sanitation.
