Soccer Beats Bullis 3-1 Behind Khosravi Goal and Assist

A shorthanded Bulldog soccer team came into Friday’s home game against Bullis knowing they needed a win to stay within striking distance of first-place Landon.  Several starters and regulars played through nagging injuries while some others missed the game altogether.  The team responded as championship contenders do, by playing a strong ball control game offensively and keeping the Bullis offense off balance with strong backline play and goaltending.  Senior captain Rustin Khosravi staked the Bulldogs to an early 1-0 lead by heading a perfectly placed Niall Fergus corner kick past the Bullis keeper in the 11^th minutes.  The home team generated several other dangerous chances throughout the half before freshman Tom Brady notched his first career goal in the 37^th minute.  Khosravi took a clearing pass, beat a defender at mid-field to create a 2-1 with Brady, and drew the last Bullis defender to him before sliding the ball to Brady who found himself in alone on the goalkeeper. 

 

St. Albans went into halftime with a 2-0 led but felt like they should have had a larger lead.  Senior Jack Marriott took care of that in the opening minute of the second half, outracing the Bullis backline to a ball at the top of the penalty area and finishing with a powerful shot that eluded the keeper.  STA kept the pressure on throughout the second half, narrowly missing several close chances.  Bullis found the net late in the half to account for the final margin of 3-1.  The Bulldogs continue their march through the second half of the IAC schedule with a game Tuesday at St. Stephen’s.  STA enters that game with a 3-0-3 league record while the Saints are 2-4.
