Seniors Named Semifinalists in Presidential Scholars Program

The U.S. Department of Education has announced that three St. Albans seniors—Ian Chang ’19, Shiva Khanna Yamamoto ’19, and Andrew Wu ’19—are semifinalists in the 2019 Presidential Scholars Program, one of the nation’s highest honors for graduating high school students.

The Commission on Presidential Scholars will now evaluate the semifinalists based on their academic success, artistic excellence, essays, community service, leadership, and demonstrated commitment to high ideals. In May, the commission will announce the 161 finalists, who will be honored at a June ceremony sponsored by the White House.
