In Celebration of Tuskegee Airmen

The Lower School Diversity Committee hosted an assembly in celebration of the Tuskegee Airmen with a the special guest William T. Fauntroy, a Tuskegee Airman in World War II. The assembly opened with a video clip from the movie Red Tails which told the story of the integral contributions of the first African American Air Force pilots and their struggle to be allowed to serve our country. Following the video, Lower School teacher, Grant Brown, shared a brief history of the Tuskegee Airmen, and Ms. Shirley Moore spoke about the Airmen’s Wives. Thomas Youngkin ’22 introduced Mr. Fauntroy, and then the CBA Chorus sang a spiritual entitled Walk Together Children. After the selection, Mr. Fauntroy and his nephew, Michael Fauntroy, took to the stage to have a conversation about his uncle’s journey to Tuskegee.

It was the hope of the Diversity Committee that the conversation between uncle and nephew would encourage the boys to learn about their own family’s unique stories.
