Metallurgy At STA

The scent of burning peat moss and the sound of a hammer hitting an anvil greeted Upper School students in John Campbell ’85 and Rob Shurmer’s history class ASTRA (Arts, Sciences, and Technologies of the Romantic Age) at the annual metallurgy demonstration. Students learned from master blacksmith and historian Jeff Dunkelberger what life was like before the use of electricity while making and drinking fresh-pressed apple cider.
