Diversity Forum 2017

Enjoy the photos!

This year’s all-day Diversity Forum addressed the future of civil discourse in a democracy, as well as free speech in the new media age. To help us examine this topic, the day began with Alexander Heffner, host of PBS's The Open Mind, speaking to the entire student body and faculty in the Martin Gym. Upper School and Lower School students then moved on to various rooms to hold small break out groups to dig deep into the discussion about the importance of civil discourse not only in our interactions with others, but in human affairs in general, and about how to handle different opinions and points of view in a school setting.

Over the years, Diversity Day has focused on a wide range of topics, including gender, religion, racial humor, cultural or ethnic diversity, attitudes towards women, social class, athletics, the arts, and the professional careers of STA graduates. Thank you to the Diversity Committee for planning this year’s Diversity Forum for our school community.
