Computer Science/Math Teacher (Upper School)
St. Albans School of Washington, DC, is seeking a creative, bright, and versatile teacher to teach a combination of Computer Science, Robotics, and Math courses beginning in Fall 2019, as well as to serve as an interdisciplinary STEM resource across departments. The position involves teaching one to two computer science courses to meet growing demand; offering one math course in the Upper School; and potentially developing an elective course in robotics, engineering, or related topics. In order to fulfill the school’s goal of ensuring that all of our boys achieve a foundation of literacy in STEM disciplines, this hire will work collaboratively with the math and science departments to create a set of interdisciplinary experiences by infusing coding, engineering, and computational thinking more broadly into the school’s curriculum. The position also involves co-advising the school’s robotics team, bringing expertise in engineering and related fields to elevate our program to the next level of excellence. Strong candidates will exhibit an excitement for creative and collaborative thinking; an ability to teach with imagination and vigor; the capacity to develop in students deep critical thinking and analytical skills; strong organizational abilities and professionalism; and an interest in collaborating across departments. A bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or a related field—as well as classroom experience—are required, an advanced degree preferred.
