St. Albans School is hosting the annual Bishop T. Walker Invitational Basketball Tournament in the Martin Gymnasium from Thursday, December 7, to Saturday, December 9, 2017. The tournament brings together independent and public schools for three days of competition. The tournament is held in honor of the Right Rev. John T. Walker, father of two STA alumni and bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington from 1977 to 1989.
The invitational raises much-needed funds for the Bishop John T. Walker School for Boys
, a tuition-free, Episcopal school in Washington, D.C., that serves low-income boys and their families living east of the Anacostia River.
In addition to competitive play, the tournament features a basketball clinic, directed by St. Albans varsity staff, for the boys from Bishop Walker, a rewarding experience for participants from both schools, according to St. Albans head varsity basketball coach OJ Johnson '97: "The opportunity to work with the young men from the Bishop Walker School is priceless. To see the excitement and smiles on these young men's faces when they enter the Martin Gym would brighten anyone's day. We look forward every year to conducting the clinic, especially the members of the varsity basketball team, who work with and give back to such a great institution."
