An Afternoon at the Opera

The Lower School community recently welcomed Dr. Aurelius Gori, baritone, and George Peachey, accompanist, for an assembly on opera music with our very own Shirley Moore, director of Forms C, B & A music. In honor of this month’s featured composer George Gershwin, the musicians performed four selections from his 1935 opera, “Porgy and Bess,” one of the most renowned operas of the 20th century, which eventually featured a full cast of classically trained African American opera singers. Enjoy the musical journey Ms. Moore and her colleagues take students on performing “Summertime,” “I Got Plenty O’ Nuttin’,” “It Ain’t Necessarily So,” and “Bess, You Is My Woman Now.”
