Athletics

Welcome

The tradition of mens sana in corpore sano — a sound mind in a sound body— is central to St. Albans School. Every student is required to take part in the athletics program, which serves to develop strengths of both body and character.
Lower School boys gain self-confidence and refine physical skills by learning fundamentals in intramural and interscholastic sports. In the Upper School, the emphasis is on competitive athletics.
The School participates in interscholastic competitions in baseball, basketball, crew, cross-country, football, golf, ice hockey, lacrosse, paddling, rock-climbing, soccer, swimming and diving, track, tennis, and wrestling. In addition, boys have an opportunity to play intramural sports, to study dance, and to join a vigorous outdoor program (Voyageur) which operates in coordination with the National Cathedral School for Girls. St. Albans is a member of the Interstate Athletic Conference (IAC), whose Founders' Cup for overall athletic excellence has been won by our "Bulldogs" many times over the years.

All fans and visitors to St. Albans School's athletic contests should park in the Cathedral parking garage, and avoid parking on neighborhood streets. All fans, coaches and players should use the Garage’s main entrance on Wisconsin Ave., at the traffic light near Hearst Hall. Visitors should not use the Woodley Road entrance to the Garage. Ticketing and towing for illegally parked cars is in effect. Thank you for your cooperation.

A Running Legacy

On Wednesday, March 16, 2016, St. Albans hosted its first home track and field meet in nearly 50 years! According to school archivist Mark Wilkerson, STA hosted its last home track meet in 1969. Thanks to the generous donations from the STRIVE Campaign, STA now has a state-of-the-art, 400-meter track, with superb field venues. Enjoy the video!

About The IAC

St. Albans belongs to the Interstate Athletic Conference (IAC), a conference of schools in the greater Washington Metropolitan Area that seeks to provide training in not only athletics but also character. The eleven sports of the league are cross-country, soccer, wrestling, basketball, ice hockey, aquatics, baseball, golf, tennis, and track and field.

The IAC consists of St. Albans, Georgetown Preparatory, Bullis, Landon, St. Stephen's & St. Agnes, and Episcopal High School.

Read the IAC Manual.
Located in Washington D.C.,  St. Albans School is a private, all boys day and boarding school. For more than a century, St. Albans has offered a distinctive educational experience for young men in grades 4 through 12. While our students reach exceptional academic goals and exhibit first-rate athletic and artistic achievements, as an Episcopal school we place equal emphasis upon moral and spiritual education.
