Lower School Head Paul Herman Announces Retirement

Lower School Head Paul Herman has announced that he will retire in June 2016, after 44 years at St. Albans. Headmaster Wilson shared the news in a letter to the community.

In explaining his decision at Lower School chapel, Mr. Herman told the boys:

“I leave you with a few thoughts: enthusiasm, excellence, and compassion. These are the ingredients that ignite and inspire us. When a student leaves the Lower School, I am looking for a healthy balance and blend of intellectual versatility, curiosity, physical energy, honor, and compassion. ...

“I agree with Civil Rights activist and poet Maya Angelou that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel. ... I will never forget how each of you have made me feel. I leave you with three requests: Work hard. Be honest. Be compassionate. Amen.”
