Letter from Mr. Kelley

April 12, 2019

Dear Parents,

My name is Peter Kelley, and I am the Upper School Academic Dean at St. Albans. One of my duties is to see that your son is placed in the proper math and foreign language courses next fall. We do this with the help of placement tests administered in each discipline. This year, placement tests will be given on Saturday, May 11 from 10:00 a.m. until approximately 12:00 noon. We will meet in the lobby of the Lane-Johnston Building near the admissions office at 10:00 a.m.

Students generally begin with a math placement test, for which calculators are permitted. (Please bring one, if possible.) If your son is currently enrolled in a foreign language and wishes to continue in this language, he will be given a placement exam. In the event he wishes to start a new language in the Upper School, simply let me know which language he prefers, and he will be placed in an entry level course. Your son will have approximately one hour to complete each placement test, but some tests can be finished in a shorter time.

Your son should report at 10:00 a.m. regardless of whether he is taking one test or two. He is welcome to bring some type of snack if he is taking both placements as there will be a short break between the two.

Please contact me via email and let me know whether your son will be able to attend the May 11 test date and which tests he will take. In the event he is unable to take his tests that day, we will schedule an alternative date.

Sincerely,
Peter E. Kelley
Upper School Academic Dean
