    Trapier Theater
Join us as we welcome Wilhelm Verwoerd to the Close for a special lecture on Tuesday, September 15, at 7:15 p.m., in Trapier Theater. Born in South Africa in 1964, Mr. Verwoerd grew up during the heyday of the system of Apartheid, within a white, Afrikaner family and with former Prime Minister Hendrik Verwoerd as his grandfather. It took him more than 20 years to truly face up to the systematic dehumanization of Apartheid, leading him to join the African National Congress in the early 1990s and to work as a researcher within the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. During the 1990s Mr. Verwoerd was also a lecturer in Political Philosophy and Applied Ethics at the University of Stellenbosch.

To learn more about Mr. Verwoerd, please visit http://beyondwalls.co.uk/who-we-are/wilhelm-verwoerd/.

Headmaster’s Lecture Series: Empathy and Ethical Decision-Making

The Rev. Daniel R. Heischman, D.D. will join us for the Headmaster’s Lecture Series on Monday, September 28, at 7:00 p.m., in Trapier Theater. Mr. Heischman has served as executive director of the National Association of Episcopal Schools (NAES) since 2007. Prior to his work with NAES, Mr. Heischman was college chaplain at Trinity College, in Hartford, Conn. for four years. He was head of the Upper School and assistant headmaster of St. Albans School from 1994 through 2003. His most recent book, Good Influence: Teaching the Wisdom of Adulthood, focuses on the role that adults—be they parents or educators—play in the development of young people. Join us as we welcome him back to the Close for his lecture on The Courage of Our Mistakes.

The lecture is free and open to the public. Please let us know if you (and your family and friends) are able to attend at rsvp@cathedral.org. We kindly request that all visitors park on the Cathedral Close or in the Cathedral Garage, rather than on neighborhood streets.

Located in Washington D.C.,  St. Albans School is a private, all boys day and boarding school. For more than a century, St. Albans has offered a distinctive educational experience for young men in grades 4 through 12. While our students reach exceptional academic goals and exhibit first-rate athletic and artistic achievements, as an Episcopal school we place equal emphasis upon moral and spiritual education.
