Alumni who remember RICHARD WAYNE DIRKSEN (1921-2003), may be interested in a new posting on You-tube at http://youtu.be/0R1J0Gs8yfM. This video, made when he retired in April, 1991, documents part of the Evensong service in his honor and the subsequent reception at which over 50 of his former Glee Club students came together from around the country to surprise him with a reprise of several numbers from the 4 full length operettas he had composed for them in the 1950’s. Those familiar with Dirksen’s church music may also be interested to know that some of his lesser-known works, a discography, a superb analysis of his hymns, and his personal catalog of his works are now accessible in a Dropbox account. In particular, this also includes a full recording, piano-vocal score, and instrumental parts, of his oratorio, JONAH, composed for the Glee Clubs in 1956. Those who have a dropbox account should be able to access this at: www.dropbox.com/home/RWD.

4th Annual Bishop Walker School Invitational Basketball Tournament
On behalf of St. Albans School, the Varsity Basketball Team would like to request your help in supporting the Fourth Annual Bishop Walker Invitational Basketball Tournament. St. Albans School will host three days of superb high school basketball and help subsidize a great cause.
When: December 12-14, 2013
Where: STA Martin Gymnasium
Bell Multicultural High School
Blue Ridge School
Pope John Paul The Great
St. Albans School
Theodore Roosevelt School
This annual tournament is in honor of Bishop John T. Walker who was the Bishop of Washington from 1977-1989, and the father of two STA alumni. Bishop Walker was a distinguished member of the St. Albans community who served as the Dean of the Washington National Cathedral. The 2013 tournament will raise much-needed funds to assist the Bishop John T. Walker School for Boys in Southeast Washington, DC (http://www.bishopwalkerschool.org/bws/). St. Albans School has taken the lead in helping to provide the necessary financial means not only to establish the school but also to sustain the school's future growth.
The St. Albans Alumni Association Board and Head Basketball Coach OJ Johnson '97 are looking for interested alumni to volunteer and provide support for the Bishop Walker Invitational Basketball Tournament on December 12-14. The Tournament looks to be a top flight affair with 8 teams from the DC and surrounding areas! We’re looking for folks to volunteer during the tournament -- to work the doors and take tickets and/or provide general logistical support – but to simply attend the event!
If you are interested in volunteering your time to help make this event a huge success, please contact Don Swagar '76t, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
ATTENTION HOCKEY ALUMNI!
Coach Dan Ryan and the St. Albans hockey team would like to invite you back to the Fort for the annual alumni hockey game. The game is set for 8:00 p.m. on Friday December 20 at Fort Dupont. Coach Ryan is already in the process of preparing his team for what is, no doubt, the biggest game on their schedule. As some of the regular alumni game attendees know, we are in a bit of a funk after losing the last couple games. So it would be great to see some former rink stars to help us return to dominance.
We would also like to welcome alumni parents, friends, and family out to the Fort for refreshments before and during the game. This is a great opportunity for all members of the St. Albans hockey family to gather and reminisce about the glory days! Contact Coleman Adams '04 at email@example.com or 301-922-6141.
Introducing the BOLD Group
(Bulldogs of the Last Decade)
So, what is BOLD?
The BOLD group consists of STA alumni who graduated within the last ten years. The BOLD program aims to connect with young alumni through a combination of events and electronic communication. While electronic connection is vital and convenient for connecting with young alumni, it will not replace personal outreach. One goal of the BOLD program is to strengthen the young alumni bond with St. Albans and to get young alumni to become active members of the alumni community. Fostering this deep alumni connection to the School is vital in building a lifelong relationship.
