Drop-Off, Pick-Up, and Parking at St. Albans

A Note on Construction

As we move forward with construction of our athletic fields, we would like to remind all students, parents, faculty and staff, and visitors to park on the Cathedral Close or in the parking garage. We’re trying hard to be good neighbors during the project; one way to do that is always to avoid parking on neighborhood streets.

From time to time, construction may temporarily affect traffic routes and parking at St. Albans. We thank you for your patience.

Student Drop-Off

We ask families to drop off their children next to the Little Sanctuary on Pilgrim Road or on Senior Circle. Students may not be dropped off on Garfield Street at any time.

Lower School Drop-Off

Enter via Pilgrim Road off Massachusetts Avenue (northbound).

Drop off your son in the designated area near the Little Sanctuary.

Exit campus by proceeding to the intersection by the Peace Cross and either continuing on Pilgrim Road or turning left on Church House Lane then right on South Road.

Upper School Drop-Off

Enter via Lych Gate Road or South Road, both off Wisconsin Ave.

Drop off your son in Senior Circle.

Exit campus by either turning right on Pilgrim Road or going straight on Church House Lane then right on South Road.

Student Pick-Up

No students may be picked up on Garfield Street at any time. Please do not wait for your son on Garfield Street, on the gymnasium service road, or in St. Sophia’s turn-around area.

Lower School Pick-Up

Lower School pick-up follows the same pattern as Lower School drop-off:

Enter via Pilgrim Road off Massachusetts Avenue.

Pick up your son in the designated area near the Little Sanctuary.

Exit campus by proceeding to the intersection by the Peace Cross and either continuing on Pilgrim Road or turning left on Church House Lane then right on South Road.

Upper School Pick-Up

Upper School parents have several options for pick-up, including on Senior Circle, on Pilgrim Road by the amphitheater, or on Pilgrim Road by the tennis pavilion. If necessary, parents can wait for their sons by parking on Pilgrim Road between Senior Circle and the George Washington Statue.

Parking

General Parking Policy

Every parking space on the Close is assigned to one of the four institutions on the Close. St. Albans parking spots include all the spaces on Senior Circle, most of the spaces on Pilgrim Road, and some spaces on South Road and Lych Gate Road. We have divided these spaces into parking areas for faculty, students, and other community members. Cars parked in these spaces between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Monday – Friday, must have an assigned Protestant Episcopal Cathedral Foundation (PECF) hangtag. At other times, parking on the Close is open to anyone. Surface parking after 11:00 p.m. is prohibited without authorization.

Parking Registration and Hangtags

Hangtags will be issued by the PECF police free of charge during student registration and faculty meetings. During the year, if a faculty member, staff member, or student needs to replace or acquire a new hangtag, he/she should go to the PECF security office, located on the top floor of the parking garage. Families of students who drive to school will be issued a maximum of one hangtag.

Student Parking

On campus, we have designated parking spaces for students and faculty. Students and faculty should never park on Garfield Street or in the surrounding neighborhood.

Parent Parking

Parents coming to school for a meeting on week days between 7:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. may park in one of the visitor parking spaces on Pilgrim Road or Senior Circle, if available. If not, we ask you to park in the PECF garage which is accessible via the Hearst Hall traffic light off Wisconsin Avenue. While the garage normally charges an hourly fee, the School will validate up to two hours of parking for parents in these situations. To receive a validation stamp, parents should bring their parking ticket to the St. Albans School receptionist.

If parents are attending an event after 3:30 p.m. or on weekends, we ask that they their car on the Close, which does not require a permit or hangtag outside the school day.

Visitor Parking

Visitors to St. Albans School should park in the Cathedral parking garage, which is accessible via the Hearst Hall traffic light off Wisconsin Avenue.

Enforcement

Between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Monday – Friday, faculty, staff, and students may park only in the designated spots and with the proper display of identification. The PECF Police will enforce parking policies, and violators will be subject to ticketing, fines, and in some cases, towing. Unpaid tickets will be reported to a collection agency.

Parking Fines

Parking in a handicap space $150

Parking in a fire lane (yellow curb) $100

Parking overnight $100

Parking in a crosswalk $50

Parking in a reserved space $30

Parking without a proper hangtag $25
