Stars Come Out For St. Albans Lacrosse Alumni Game

More than 30 St. Albans Lacrosse alumni, ranging from the class of 1991 (Andy Hubbard) to 2010 (Ben Leiken and William Hubbard), participated in the 18th Annual St. Albans Lacrosse Alumni game at Satterlee-Henderson Field in June.

The alumni took on the returning varsity squad and prevailed by 2 goals, 14-12 (the returning varsity squad was aided greatly by the coaches who suited up--Tyler Casertano, Jon Mattes-Ritz, and Daniel Kramer--and played with the younger team). Not surprisingly, two old-timers stole the show. Dr. P.J. Prest '98, a former All-American goalie at Bowdoin--who said he hadn't played in years--drove down from his medical post in Philadelphia the morning of the game and turned away shot after shot from the young Bulldogs. Jesse Hubbard '94 scored five goals and picked corners at will, putting on a mini-clinic for the fans in attendance. One spectator remarked that as superb as Hubbard's performance was, he was even more impressed by watching Hubbard quietly pick up debris on the field after the cook-out.

It was a family affair in many ways. The Hubbard clan was represented by Jesse '94, Andy '91, and William '10 (no word on where Max '08 was). Hubbard cousins Nick Dugan '09, Zack Dugan '03, and Lucius Polk '03 also played. Other siblings in attendance were Will '01 and Matt Rawson '07.

Some of the other alumni who made it out were: Courtney Baker '06, John Wiacek '06, Justin Kyhos '07, Sam Tyler '07, Ian Crumley '07, Lawton Salley '08, Jack Balaban '08, Matt Miller '08, Jack Ochs '08, Richard Schoenfeld '08, Roger Ferguson '09, Ned Lockwood '09, Chris Landon '09, Cole Kellogg '09, Charlie Townshend '09, and Ramsey Bates '09.

The 21st Annual Vernon W. Holleman Jr. ’54 Bulldog Golf Tournament is a fundraiser for Scholarship Endowment. It gives us a chance to enjoy golfing and socializing while helping the School support its students. The format for the Tournament is Captain's Choice (Scrambles).

All proceeds from the Vernon W. Holleman Bulldog Golf Tournament go to the Vernon W. Holleman Jr. ’54 Scholarship Fund. This endowed scholarship fund was created in 1999 with a gift from the estate of Vernon Holleman. The scholarship provides financial aid to the sons of St. Albans alumni who would not ordinarily be able to afford the cost of tuition.

This year's Tournament will take place on Sunday, October 3, 2010, at Lake Presidential.  Click here for more information and a tournament brochure.
